Our Core Principles

"We cannot change the nature of the addict or addiction. We can help to change the old lie “Once an addict, always an addict,” by striving to make recovery more available. God, help us to remember this difference."

Self

Taking personal responsibility for our own recovery and spiritual growth.

Freedom

Finding liberation from the obsession to use and the cycle of active addiction.

God

As we understand Him, or a Power greater than ourselves that can restore us.

Society

Reconnecting with the world and building healthy, meaningful relationships.

Goodwill

Approaching our fellows and the world with kindness and an open heart.

Service

Sharing our experience, strength, and hope with those who still suffer.

Am I an
Addict?

This is a question every member of NA has had to answer. For some, it was obvious; for others, it was the hardest truth to face.

"Only you can answer this question. We found that we could not stop using drugs on our own, and we were powerless over our addiction."

Self-Reflection

  • Do you ever use alone?

  • Have you ever tried to stop and found you couldn't?

  • Does your drug use interfere with your work or home life?

  • Do you think you might have a drug problem?

"NA is a fellowship of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem."

What is
Narcotics Anonymous?

Narcotics Anonymous is a non-profit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. We are recovering addicts who meet regularly to help each other stay clean.

Our primary purpose is to carry the message to the addict who still suffers. The message is that an addict, any addict, can stop using drugs, lose the desire to use, and find a new way to live.

The Heart of NA: Sponsorship

A sponsor is a recovering addict who helps us work the Twelve Steps. It is a one-on-one relationship built on shared experience, honesty, and trust.

"Sponsorship is the heartbeat of our program. We strongly suggest finding a sponsor as soon as possible to guide you through your journey."

The 12 Steps of NA

01

We admitted that we were powerless over our addiction, that our lives had become unmanageable.

02

We came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

03

We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

04

We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

05

We admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

06

We were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

07

We humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

08

We made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.

09

We made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

10

We continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

11

We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

12

Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Spiritual Foundations

Just For Today

Just for today, my thoughts will be on my recovery, living and enjoying life without the use of drugs.

Just for today, I will have trust in someone in NA who believes in me and wants to help me in my recovery.

Just for today, I will have a program. I will try to follow it to the best of my ability.

Just for today, through NA, I will try to get a better perspective on my life.

Just for today, I will be unafraid. My thoughts will be on my new associations, people who are found a new way of life. So long as I follow that way, I have nothing to fear.

The Serenity Prayer

"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."

Third Step Prayer

"Take my will and my life. Guide me in my recovery. Show me how to live."
